Emergency Assistance for Natural Gas Customers 2022
On this page, we have compiled all the current information regarding emergency assistance in the gas and heating sector, in accordance with § 2, paragraph 4 of the German Emergency Gas and Heating Assistance Act.
How is the relief amount calculated for natural gas customers?
To calculate the relief amount, multiply one-twelfth of the expected annual consumption by the contractual natural gas price per kilowatt-hour valid in December. Add to the result the portion of the base price for the month of December.
Important Notice Regarding Annual Consumption
The calculation is based on the annual consumption expected for the point of consumption in the month of September.
If the amount of assistance differs from the amount listed under "Credit/other outstanding debts," this difference results from other open positions in your contractual account (e.g., overpaid installments, excess payments, unpaid consumption bills).
The expected annual consumption for September 2022 may differ from the actual annual consumption in your last statement.
Why is the actual annual consumption not used as the basis for the relief?
The relief amount for end consumers of natural gas is regulated in § 2 of the Emergency Gas and Heating Assistance Act. According to this law, one-twelfth of the expected annual consumption is to be paid at the prices valid on December 1, 2022.
To determine the annual consumption, values forecasted by the supplier in September 2022 for the customer should be used. The purpose of this approach is to maintain incentives for energy savings and prevent consumers from increasing their heating consumption in December to receive higher government assistance.
Why was September chosen for consumption forecasting?
The relief amount for end consumers of natural gas is specifically regulated in § 2 of the Emergency Gas and Heating Assistance Act. To determine the annual consumption, the values forecasted by the supplier in September 2022 for the customer should be used.
How is the relief provided for "Registered Power Measurement Customers"?
For registered power measurement customers, the relief amount is one-twelfth of the measured network withdrawal for the period from November 2021 to October 2022 at the prices valid on December 1, 2022.
For points of consumption that initially connected to the gas pipeline after November 1, 2021, one-twelfth of a typical annual consumption is used. The payment is made no later than the first statement covering the month of December 2022.
